The Largest Pre-stress FRP Laminate Project - Wuhan Junshan Yangtze River Bridge






Wuhan Junshan Yangtze river bridge is a deep water extra-large highway cable-stayed bridge. It is two-way six lanes, one of the widest bridge in China of this kind.

After 17 years of use, various factors such as overload vehicle, big day and night temperature difference has took a toll on the bridge. The whole bridge was reinforced in 2017.

The design team decided to use the pre-stress CFRP plate system to make up for the stress loss of the original pre-stressed steel strand. The calculation of fracture and deflection will consider the influence of the pre-stress.

It uses the small 3.0x20mm CFRP plate with staggered position to ensure the stability and safety of the overall stress of the bridge.

The bridge is 4881 meters long in total and with 46 bridge spans. 3220 sets of carbon fiber plates and anchor devices were installed on the bridge.

Total value for this single project is about 8 million RMB((1.3 million USD).

It is the largest Pre-stress CFRP project in Asia, probably also the largest one in the world.

With the Horse pre-stress CFRP system, innovative technology and new construction process, the problems of clamping, splitting and sliding were rare.

The overall anchorage efficiency reaches 99%. It is much higher than the national standard requirement 95%.

Horse Pre-stress system has smaller anchor device and higher anchorage efficiency. With more and more pre-stress project in the civil construction, Horse will keep on playing a crucial part in the market.
